SMK Badak was one of 21 schools that received Disaster Relief Aid from FINCO or financial institution members in 2023. The school was hit by a flood in December 2022 and flood waters rose to 6 feet high. The roof of the Form 4 classrooms was badly damaged, and eight students’ residences were also affected resulting in them losing most of their belongings.

With their usual classrooms unsafe to use, approximately 100 Form 4 students were relocated to the school hall while repairs were underway. As the hall was not conducive to learning, the school did what they could to cater to the students by organising motivational programmes, games and educational talks rather than resuming the curriculum.

With the RM11,940 in Disaster Relief funds received from Hong Leong Bank and FINCO’s Disaster Relief fund, the school quickly repaired the roof and provided back-to-school kits to students in need, enabling students to resume learning within a week of returning to school after the holidays.
