Theme: Reading Quest

The “Reading Quest” challenge is a fun and creative way to encourage students to read more and to demonstrate their understanding of texts through scrapbooking. Take this opportunity to:

  • Encourage students to explore different types of books and genres.
  • Foster independent reading skills, empowering students to choose and engage with books on their own.
  • Offer a way for students to express ideas creatively by making scrapbooks.

Book Prompts and Tasks

Book Prompt Task
1 A book with animals  Create a page about the main animal character and tell us how you feel about the animal character.
2 A book with a toy  Create an image of the toy described in the book and what you like about it.
3 A book with a superhero  Create a new superhero with your chosen superpower and tell us how the superhero in the book can work with this new superhero to fight crime.
4 A book with an interesting setting Create a page describing the setting in the book and explain your reasons for wanting to visit this place.
5 A book with a magical element Create an illustration of your favourite magical power and tell us which magical element in the book is your favourite.
6 A book about friendship Create a memorable scene from the book and tell us about your best friend. 
7 A book about a family Create a page showing the family members in the book and share which family member from the book is your favourite.
8 A book with a happy ending Create a page illustrating the happy ending of the book and tell us why you like it. 
9 A non-fiction Book Create a page illustrating a thing or person that interests you in the book and share what you’ve learned.
10 A short novel Create a page of your favourite character from the short novel, and then explain why.

Prizes

Two (2) overall winners will be choosen to win RM500 prizes:

  • RM400 IRC Grant for school
  • RM100 cash prize for student
  • Certificate

All participants will receive an e-Certificate

Timeline

What the judges are looking for?

  1. All scrapbook entries must be submitted by 11.59pm on 15 January 2024.
  2. Participation is open to all students enrolled in the HIP-FINCO Reads programme.
  3. Each HIP – FINCO Reads school can submit up to two scrapbook entries.
  4. Entries must be submitted in English.
  5. Students must select at least four different prompts to create their scrapbook. Failure to adhere to this requirement will result in automatic disqualification.
  6. All submitted scrapbooks must be the exclusive and original work of the participating student. Any forms of plagiarism or use of pre-existing content without proper attribution will result in disqualification.
  7. Entries will be evaluated based on content, creativity, and genre exploration. The decision of the judges is final.
  8. Permission to publish: By entering this competition, you agree to give FINCO your permission to publish any materials for promotional or educational purposes on their online platforms. The publication will take place on the FINCO website, on Facebook and Instagram and it can be used for public relations purposes. In addition, you assure us that you own the rights to the text, photos and videos and that you grant us the right to use them. We assume no responsibility for the contents of the individual contributions.
  9. Use and Disclosure of Personal Data and Purpose Specification: FINCO will keep confidential all personal information collected through this competition. We may however disclose such information to the following parties in the course of using the information for the reason it was collected:
    • A person or company acting on behalf of FINCO;
    • Any other person or company who has undertaken to keep such information confidential, provided they have a right to such information.
  10. Data Retention: We will keep any personal information you give us as long as there is a reason to do so, for instance to satisfy the law or regulations, or to protect our interests. If not, then we will destroy it by purging it from our electronic, manual, and other filing systems according to our internal procedures and schedules.
