A Financial Industry Collective Effort to Rebuild SMK Banting After the Storm
In May 2024, SMK Banting was hit by a severe storm, causing extensive roof damage that led to leaks, cracked walls, and destroyed equipment. The school’s Block E — a key learning space — became unusable, disrupting students’ education and creating a difficult learning environment.
Recognising the urgent need for repairs, CIMB and Hong Leong Bank, with support from FINCO, stepped in to provide disaster relief aid. Their contribution of more than RM 77,000 enabled crucial renovations, directly benefiting 1,300 students, with 100 students now able to resume learning in the restored classrooms. The impact of this support has been deeply felt within the school community. Students are once again learning in a safe and comfortable environment, while teachers can focus on delivering lessons without the constraints of a damaged facility.
“It is not easy to secure funding for school repairs, yet schools are where the nation’s future leaders are nurtured. We deeply appreciate the support from FINCO and the sponsoring banks. This initiative is invaluable, and we hope to see more organisations stepping up to support schools in need.” – Pn Hjh Rosnah, Principal, SMK Banting
