Roundtable Discussion: Bridging Gaps in TVET
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) remains under-subscribed in Malaysia, with only 10.5% of students enrolled in TVET pathways in 2023 (BERNAMA). Yet, TVET plays a vital role in building a future-ready workforce equipped with practical, industry-relevant skills. With national focus increasing—through initiatives like the National TVET Policy 2030 and the MTUN-led Advanced TVET 2030, TVET pathway is being positioned as a full-fledged academic and professional option.
To understand the barriers holding back TVET’s growth and explore ways to strengthen its appeal, FINCO convened a roundtable discussion with policymakers, practitioners, researchers, NGOs, and industry partners. This summary captures the key insights, challenges and opportunities identified to collectively elevate TVET as a viable and respected pathway for Malaysian students.
