Learning to Make Smarter Financial Decisions

“Now I know how to plan my spending better and avoid online scams.” – Alia Farisha, SMK Pengkalan

Although Alia Farisha had previously learned about budgeting from her parents, the FINCO Financial Literacy workshop helped her understand how to create a more realistic monthly budget. The fifteen-year-old student from SMK Pengkalan shared that learning the difference between needs and wants helped her better plan her spending. During the budgeting activity, she also realised how she could set aside some money as savings.

The workshop also introduced students to important financial literacy topics such as banking services as well as scams and fraud. Like many teenagers, Alia frequently shops online and recalled purchasing a bag for RM70 that never arrived.

Through the session, she learned how to identify potential scams by checking seller reviews and recognising when deals seem too good to be true. She also gained a better understanding of the differences between e-wallets and bank accounts, including how money can be transferred between them.

With this knowledge, Alia now feels more confident managing her finances and hopes to share what she learned with her family and friends.
