Safe Learning Environment at SK Kampung Sau
SK Kampung Sau, a small rural school in Mukah, Sarawak, serves 115 students supported by 12 teachers. Located along the banks of the Batang Mukah River, the school is highly vulnerable to flooding, where even short disruptions can significantly affect students’ access to learning.
In February 2025, prolonged heavy rainfall combined with high tides led to severe flooding from 2 to 16 February, causing extensive damage to the school. Classrooms, administrative offices and key facilities were affected, with damaged walls, weakened flooring and the loss of essential furniture such as teachers’ tables, chairs, bookshelves and classroom doors. With limited financial resources, the school faced difficulties in restoring its facilities and resuming normal operations.
In response, FINCO supported the school’s recovery with a total contribution of RM55,130, funded by AmGroup Foundation (RM35,130) and Prudential Assurance Malaysia (RM20,000). The funds were used to repair damaged walls and flooring, repaint classrooms, and replace essential furniture including teacher tables, chairs, whiteboards and storage racks, creating a more durable and conducive learning environment.
Beyond financial support, six volunteers from Prudential Assurance Malaysia contributed their time and effort to assist with clean-up and minor repair works, accelerating the restoration process. AmGroup Foundation representatives also visited the school to engage directly with students and teachers, gaining insights into their needs and discussing ways to further improve school facilities.
Following the restoration, SK Kampung Sau was able to resume teaching and learning in a safer, cleaner and more comfortable environment. Classrooms have been revitalised, providing students with a more positive and engaging space to learn, while teachers are better equipped to conduct lessons effectively.
